Jeramiah Pearce
Welcome to Minnesota ghost stories podcast. My name is Jeramiah Pearce and I will be your host. Do you enjoy sitting around with your friends talking about ghost stories, UFOs, or just the unexplained? That’s what we are here for. Minnesota ghost stories is where people like you and I share our stories, real people telling real stories. Today I have with me Gary West.

Gary
I’ve been a professional driver for over 62 years and this story is concerning some phenomena that I went through back in the 80s.

I don’t have an explanation for it. I am not seeking personal gain from this. I’m just trying to find out what happened.

I had one instance in particular that comes to mind where I was on a trip in a truck that was geared for 68 miles an hour. During that trip, there was a segment where I average over 109 miles an hour. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know why it happened. All I can tell you is when and where, and it was quite a trip.

I left the naval base at Crane, Indiana, and was on the road driving to  Allah, Utah, but the segment of the trip for that I am talking about was between Crane, Indiana, and Limon, Colorado. I got out on the highway and had another trucker holler at me on the CB. We decided to run together, but I never saw that other truck. I would be passing a mile marker and I would tell the other driver where I was. And he said, Well, I’m past the same marker. Yet, we could not see one another and it was like, a different dimension and I can’t explain it. I’m not a physicist or anything like that. But we traveled the same distance and we covered it in just a few short hours. It turned out to be 109 miles an hour average. I don’t know how fast his truck was geared for, but mine was geared for 68 miles an hour. The average was just over 109 miles an hour on that leg of the trip. Neither one of us has any answers. We don’t know why we couldn’t see each other. We did stop at the truck stop in Limon, Colorado. We had breakfast and we discussed that trip. That’s the only thing we talked about while we were there. Neither one of us has any answers. And I’m in hopes that perhaps someone can let me know what happened.

Jeramiah Pearce
If any listeners out there have any ideas about what could have happened here? Contact the show and I’ll get a hold of Gary because I want to know what happened as well.

Did you see any lights or anything in the sky that were abnormal?

Gary
I did not

Jeramiah Pearce
Because the only thing I can think of is UFO missing time type phenomenon. That’s what this reminds me of. And it’s baffling. It’s like how does your truck that was only able to go 68 miles an hour tops go 109?

Gary
That’s correct.

Jeramiah Pearce
You made this trip at 109 miles an hour. Almost double the speed and you wouldn’t drive 109 miles an hour in a semi-truck anyway.

Gary
The only time I ever did that is when my brakes failed and I was going down a mountain.

Jeramiah Pearce
That was probably scarier than this.

Gary
Yes. There are creases in that seat that wasn’t there naturally.

Jeramiah Pearce
So what were you hauling during this trip?

Gary
I was hauling dummy bombs that they use for practice.

Jeramiah Pearce
Okay. And what was the airbase called? Do you know?

Gary
I didn’t go to the airbase they were destined for the Navy base in Fallon Nevada.

Jeramiah Pearce
That’s crazy. I know when you first told me the story I was thinking that is was probably one of the best stories I’ve heard in a while. Did anything else happen during that trip that you can think of or want to share?

Gary
Not that I can think of at this point. Like I say, I’ve talked to other people and when I said I wasn’t in it for the money, then they quit talking with me. I don’t know, I’m not a greedy person. I would like to know what happened. Well, I know what happened but I don’t know why it happened or anything like that and that was decades ago and it still is on my mind a lot.

Jeramiah Pearce
Yeah, you don’t want any fame or fortune you are just looking for answers.

Has anyone ever contacted you about sharing your story on TV?

Gary
No one has ever done that. They’ve never made that offer. I had a friend of mine who passed away. He created a program called the UFO enigma. His name was Dale Caruso, and he was a DJ at a local radio station near Breezy Point Minnesota that’s no longer in existence. But Dale had a lot of information. And some of his people contacted me. But like, I say when I said I wasn’t interested in it for money, they quit talking with me.

Jeramiah Pearce
That guy’s name sounds very familiar to me. And I don’t know why. Does he do other UFO type shows or anything?

Gary
I don’t know if he did any other programs. I know I was so interested in that show that I would not miss a segment of it.

Jeramiah Pearce
Did anything else ever happen to you besides this one instance?

Gary
I’ve had minor things over the years that happened and I was a little bit curious and then when this thing comes up all the other things kind of disappeared, just like they didn’t have the importance that this one had.

Jeramiah Pearce
Do you think they’re all related?

Gary
I’m just not sure. They could have been in some way or another. I’m trying to think of the the the distance, but there was another trip that averaged 100 miles an hour in that same truck.

Jeramiah Pearce
When we talked before you were talking about the trip where you were supposed to pick up your wife? Is that this same trip?

Gary
No, but that was a hellacious trip where the dispatcher said, there’s no way you could make it. I said I’ll be there, and I made it. They closed the highway on me twice coming through Wyoming. I had to go to Milan, Illinois. They said there was no way I could make it. I did make it because I stayed in the seat and did my job. I did it as safe as I possibly could under the weather conditions. When I called in, the dispatcher asked me, where are you? Well, the first thing he said is I want you to stop in Des Moines and pick up your wife. I had got permission for her to go on a trip with me. I said, You mean I have to go all the way back there and he said where are you? I said I’m unloading in Milan. He had called Milan and changed an appointment I had to Monday and I got there on Friday morning. My legs were so stiff I couldn’t get out of the truck. I had other drivers there that helped me out of the truck to work my legs so I could walk again. But I was already unloaded. He said can you still drive and I said, depends how far I have to go. If you can make it up to Waterloo, he said I’ll bring your wife down and meet you in Waterloo. It was closer than Des Moines anyway. So we did that.

That was a trip where I lost my breaks. My wife was in the truck with me and the highway patrol said they figured I was doing 140 miles an hour when I come off of the mountain. I know the good Lord was with me there.

Jeramiah Pearce
Oh yes, and you are okay and I’m assuming your wife was too.

Gary
Yeah, and both scared as well. You know, there was one runaway ramp and there was a motorhome parked in front of it. I figured there was a family and I couldn’t take them out. I would take myself out before I would have a family. So I kept going. I caught the dickens on the radio. One guy told me to get off of the radio and drive the truck. All I was trying to do was warn people to get out of my way. Another driver laughed and said, he’s not just talking on the radio, he’s drinking a cup of coffee and smoking a cigarette too. I guess I was. I didn’t realize it but I was. I guess the good Lord was with me. There was no other way we would have gotten down that mountain.

Jeramiah Pearce
That’s for sure.

But yeah, if any of the listeners out there have had any suggestions or ideas of what Gary may have experienced, please get ahold of me and I’ll get a hold of Gary. Let’s get to the bottom of this.

Gary, is there anything else you’d like to add or any other stories you’d like to tell?

Gary
Well if people want to meet face to face. I’m more than happy to do that.

Jeramiah Pearce
Well, we’ll keep in touch because I want to get the bottom of this too.

Gary, thank you for coming on. I appreciate that a lot.

Gary
Well, thank you for the opportunity. I just hope that somebody out there can give me the answers. I just need to know.
